A small office, and no monthly number
Work with us
We are a six-person agency on 61st Street. Nobody here is on a sales target, which changes what the job is more than any other single thing we could tell you about it.
What the job is
Reading policies properly, working out which carrier fits a risk, and then staying with it: the renewals, the endorsements, the certificates and the claims. It is more reading than selling, and the people who are good at it tend to be the ones who enjoy finding the clause that everybody else skipped.
Nobody here works to a monthly production number. That is unusual and it is deliberate: a producer with a target has a reason to recommend a move that is not needed, a permanent policy where term would do, and a limit chosen for the commission. Removing the target removes the reason.
Getting licensed
You do not need a licence to start in a service role. New York requires a producer licence to solicit, negotiate or sell insurance, which means pre-licensing education, a state examination and fingerprinting. We pay for the course and the examination fees for anybody who wants to go that route, and give you the time to study rather than expecting it in the evenings.
The languages spoken in this office are English, Spanish, Tagalog, Nepali, Bengali. Woodside being what it is, a producer who can explain a declarations page in somebody’s first language is doing something a translation app cannot.
How we work here
Four things about the job
No targets
Salary and a share of agency performance rather than a number per producer. It changes what advice sounds like.
No bought leads
We do not buy internet leads or cold-call. The work comes from renewals, referrals and the neighbourhood.
Licensing paid for
Pre-licensing course and examination fees, with study time in working hours rather than after them.
Languages valued
Spanish, Tagalog, Nepali and Bengali all get used here weekly. If you have another, it is worth having.
This is a demonstration website for a business that does not exist, so there is no vacancy behind this page and no application will reach an employer. It is here because a real agency’s site would have one.
Bring the declarations page and we will read it with you
Ask us what it would cost
Send or bring the summary pages of what you already have — those two sheets are where most of the useful conversation is. We will tell you what we would place it with and what that would cost, what we are paid for doing it, and whether you should move at all. Quite often the answer is that your current policy is priced fairly and you should keep it, and that is an answer we give in writing like any other.
